There are many expectations, demands and requirements placed on a webcam performer by the cam network, its members, and the casual guests that enter your chat room. Some are valid expectations that are an integral part of the job. Others are rules that the cam network expects you to abide by. And more commonly, guest visitors have expectations of what they might find from a cam network. In the latter case, those expectations are usually invalid and based on their personal desire rather than any real obligation on the part of a performer.

To help potential webcam performers to understand the nature of the job, we have listed a brief overvue so that you can formulate some expectations of your own before starting out as a cam model.

The public performance

The public performance is the show that you do that is in full public view and requires discretion on your part. No nudity is allowed and some networks will fine performers that break this rule.

In general, your public performance is about creating a raport with guests and members while, at the same time, flirting and teasing in an effort to make your viewers hungry for sex. Wearing sexy lingerie, dancing and moving in front of the cam in a seductive manner, and rubbing one's panties is usually enough to drive those watching into a frenzy of sexual anticipation. Keep it up without satisfying their need and one, two, or more will just have to engage a private session before their head explodes - if you know what we mean. And you'll most likely receive tips along the way that boost your income without having to perform in private.

Eating in front of the cam is disallowed by some networks. They regard it as offensive or a turn-off. If you get hungry, logoff for 30 minutes, relax and enjoy a meal. Treat webcam work just as you would any other job. Make sure you get regular breaks. Your health is important too and being in front or a webcam all day long is not recommended. Take regular short breaks. Make sure you eat and drink, and plan for regular exercise at the end of each day so that you can stay fit and healthy.

The decor of your room is also important. Typically a performer will be warned if their room is displayed in a way that suggests that they might be a minor. Cartoon characters and child like room settings are likely to be questioned at some stage. If you do setup your room in that manner, you can also expect to be questioned by your viewers, particularly if you are a young looking barely legal adult performer. It is not the way that any cam network wants to portray itself.

The Public Chat

Public chat, more commonly referred to as free chat, is where guests and members congregate to chat with the performer. It is a public place and anything that goes on there is seen by all viewers.

For the most part, the conversations that you have with members and guests will be fun and entertaining for everyone. However, free chat obtains traffic (visitors) from many sources on the web. Wherever the parent network advertises, and wherever affilliates advertise, that is where the clicks will come from. Sometimes the source of traffic is poor quality and other times it is excellent.

When traffic to your room is poor quality, there can be large numbers of guests begging for a free show. Quite often refusal can turn a little nasty and abuse is hurled at the performer. As a webcam performer yourself, you should understand that any abuse is not personal even if it sounds like it is aimed at you directly. The fact is, you most likely have done an excellent job stimulating them to arousal, and they need satisfaction. When they can't pay, that can seem unfair and they get a little loud. Unfortunately, learning to let abusive words bounce off you is all part of the job. There are some nasty people in this world who take it as an opportunity to vent their anger. But remember, these people are few and the job is mostly satisfying and with good reward for your effort.

There are tools available for webcam performers to deal with persistently bad mannered visitors. They can be dumped, blocked or passed to the network admin to deal with. It pays to get rid of annoying or bad mannered visitors quickly because they can upset visitors who might convert to paying members.

Typically, in free chat, a webcam performer will be in his/her underwear or with little clothing on. A successful performer will be interacting with visitors and showing/performing as much as possible without breaking the non-nudity in public rule.

The most common scene is the bedroom. Second to that is a comfortable chair in a living room or anywhere in the house. Webcam sex shows can be performed anywhere, as long as you have the privacy to do so and are not breaking any laws. There are models who perform in the kitchen, bathroom, shower, toilet, by the pool, on the sun deck, even on the beach.

Visitors in free chat will quite often ask whether you have sex toys and what you can do in private. This is your chance to make a sale! When asked about these things, show them what you have, but show them in an exciting way. Holding up a dildo or two is good. But better if you hold them to the cam for visitors to see, then rub them over your body while looking like it is the most desirable pleasure for you. Show them what you can do with it without actually showing them what you do in private. Get them aroused and make them pay for your time.

In Private Show

This is where it all gets interesting, and hot! To enter a private show, the visitor must be a member and have deposited funds to their account. You will get paid on a per minute basis for any time they spend with you in private up until the time that they either exit the private session or run out of credits in their account. When the latter occurs, they will frequently return minutes later to finish the show after spending for more credits.

Although some members may not have a webcam themselves, most members will and they'll usually want to show themselves to you also. Private shows therfore are mostly a two-way sexual encounter where they see what you are doing, and you see what they are doing. Many performers enjoy cam-to-cam (referred to as cam2cam or c2c) so much that they find that they get caught up in the heat of it all and end up being highly aroused themselves. Of course that just adds value to the performance for you both.
